About Allure

First published in 1991, Allure aims to cover beauty, fashion, and women's health while also placing them in cultural context.

Content in each monthly issue is organized into the following sections: "Beauty Reporter," a wide-ranging review of makeup brands, trend advice, editors' picks, skin-care strategies, and featured celebrity examples; "Fashion," a preview of the hottest looks--daytime, evening, weekend--plus a featured designer, and accessory trends; "Insiders' Guide," the insider secrets on makeup application; and "Health," a collection of wellness advice, often as it relates to skin, mood, and relationships.

Throughout the year, Allure publishes several special issues dedicated to seasonal fashion, as well as beauty-related topics, such as hair, anti-aging, holiday style, and more. Perhaps its best known special editions are the annual "Best in Beauty Awards Issue" and "Readers' Choice Awards Issue." In each respective issue, magazine editors and readers weigh in on the best makeup, skin care, and hair care products.

Women who are interested in beauty tips from celebrities and the pros would love a subscription to Allure magazine!

This is the one that offers something for everylass and every class. Sure there are lots of stars, face it they lead the pack and most of them are fascinating people. The photogaphy in this one is much more real with lots of "candid" shots that don't make you squint to find the subject. LOVE the samples included. I've never been able to spend $50+ each to try on perfume and seldom get to the department stores. ALLURE is the answer. My last issue had over 8 test strips and though I can't tell which in this review, one was perfect for me. Other samples include lipgloss, hair creams, moisture products, and more. One ALLURE FEATURE that is interesting and usefull contains tearout hints and tricks of style. They include "cheat sheets" for clever hints and shortcuts for makeup, skin care, tools (including brushes), clothing (from office to The Ritz), plus accessorizing with ideas that work. My collection is about an inch thick and organized by ALLURE's titles, "Beauty 101" "Style 101."

I've subscribed to Allure since its inception. It has changed dramatically over the years. It is now very celebrity topic driven and the quality of the writing and length of the articles have gone downhill. It does a good job of interviewing beauty industry experts and sometimes the products are affordable to the average woman. More likely than not, they want you to buy a $25 mascara and to listen to lots of nonsense about plastic surgery and facial injection "improvements". It has a modest amount about fashion. A good instructional monthly insert about makeup, skin care, etc. and a yearly "best of" issue. It also features a vapid celebrity on the cover with a vapid celebrity interview. It used to be a much better, more relevant magazine for woman of all ages who were interested in makeup, skincare, haircare and cosmetics without the push for "Britney" articles and surgery.

Best Uses

As a beauty professional I used to think of allure as a place to keep current on trends and get makeup and hair tips. Lately I have had to force myself to get through each issue, find the makeup advice next to useless ("apply bronzer where the sun naturally hits your face" what does that MEAN and why is it repeated endlessly in every beauty mag? I expect more intelligence from allure) and will not be renewing my subscription. They shamelessly plug their advertisers' products, quote the same doctors month after month, and the celebrity-fawning? So over it.

    Allure

    By Ladygreen

    from New York

This is a great magazine for those who love fashion and makeup. I don't think there is much substance to the magazine, however, so it's not really for me. Sometimes I enjoy it, but most times I don't.

    My Fave Magazine

    By Arismom

    from Atlanta

I have been purchasing this title since I was teen and LOVE it. Some of the hair tips cant be used on my type of hair without tons of extra steps, but overall great for makeup and skin tips.

    Allure Magazine

    By Shell

Allure magazine is an overall great magazine to catch up on the latest trends in fashion and makeup. Most of the tips are practical too, and usually encourage self-acceptance.

    By Annie

    from Arizona

I love getting Allure magazine! I have been getting the magazine for about 4-5 years now. They offer you a great discount price when renewing and I always get my issues. I'm a cosmetologist and I can't wait to share some interesting new beauty tip, that I know will work, with them!

I have been getting Allure magazine over 15 years cannot live without. It is better than Instyle and very informative on Beauty and Fashion. Great articles and a wonderful poolside magazine. Nothing intimidating.
