Additional Information

About Astronomy

Each monthly issue contains a mix of columns about sky viewing, reader-submitted astrophotography, and articles about astronomy and astrophysics. Written to be accessible to nonscientists, Astronomy magazine includes a star and planet chart, tips on telescope observing, and techniques for taking beautiful photographs.

Content in the magazine addresses both the science and hobby of astronomy. Typically, the first half of Astronomy magazine contains reports about professional science, including topics like cosmology, space exploration, and research conducted by professional-class observatories and individual professional astronomers. The latter half of the magazine is dedicated to items of interest to hobbyists, such as sky events, observing techniques, astrophotography, and amateur astronomy in general.

Throughout the year, Astronomy magazine may include special sections, such as booklets or posters related to upcoming sky events, bound into the magazine. It also publishes an annual "Telescope Buyer's Guide."

Sky gazing enthusiasts who want to learn more about the stars, planets, and more would enjoy a subscription to Astronomy magazine!

    Best Uses

More colorful and more directed to the amateur than venerable Sky and Telescope, and without the occasional Commie overlay that Sky and Tel has had lately, but not the indepth science of the older magazine.

      Not Bad

      By MagRead

      from Beverly, MA

Astronomy magazine attempts to balance astrophysics and home telescopes to try to pay the bills. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they don't.

Astronomy is my favorite magazine of all times. I read it from cover to cover and find the articles and even the advertisements most informative.
