They have a strong bias toward quick-handling cars that are better suited to sprited drives down a twisting backroad than every day commuting. In comparison tests, rest assured the vehicle with the best handling and liveliest engine will win. In fairness, how entertaining is it to read review after review about minivans, econoboxes, and Mom's SUV? It's a great medium to read a well written account of the driving experience in a Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborgini. Since this is the closest most of us will ever get to being behind the wheel of one of those beauties, it makes for a great read. I also give them a thumbs up for keeping an eye on near-future developments like hybrids and diesels, and not going ga-ga over pie-in-the-sky long-range alt. fuel solutions.

I have been a subscriber of Car and Driver for over 10 years. Up until about 6 months ago, I was still thrilled to get my copy every month. There is a new managing editor, Eddie Alterman, and I am not a fan. Brock Yates and Csaba Csere have both retired and there are some new pens that just don't have the same flare and panache. The ad pages have tripled too. (There is a 5 page section in the back filled with male enhancement ads). There are also new types of articles that talk about things such as, 'how to shift a semi truck' and 'jump a Subaru'. Why? I would rather see more details and pictures about the cars they are reviewing than filler pages given to rookie writers. On the positive side, the main staff writers are still putting out great, fun to read articles about the cars that we want to hear about. I just want more of THAT and less of David E Davis Jr...the rambling old man who writes about an old friend that he heard from recently who reminded him of a race he once entered...with no other point to the story. Besides all those things, you can read any article in the magazine(that you paid for) online just a few weeks later for free. It's just not the GREAT magazine it once was. I am going to give Automobile a try this year.

I have been receiving this magazine for years, probably 15 years or more and still enjoy reading it every month.
Have had a subscription to this magazine for the past several years and enjoy each issue. Good source of varied car and driver news and updates from reliable sources. Not too technical a magazine, it has a good balance of easy reading with some in-depth articles and lots of great pictures;also, though there are msny ads, they are very well done.
Car and Driver magazine is more fluff than substance. I actually counted the pages of ads vs articles, ads won! Display picture of beautiful automobile on cover and inside cover and have a short one page article on it. Lots of their reviews are on their website not in the magazine. I want to read reviews without having to go online.
I let my Car and Driver subscription lapse because I got tired of reading about cars I couldn't afford. Most of their car tests are exotic or expensive cars. There is very little regular coverage of cars that 90% of the population drives. Also, their '10 best' issue has become stale over the 45 years I have read it. Seems like some vehicles are always are picked like Accord, BMW 3 series and Corvette. Finally, their road test charts are hard to read. They tried to improve the format recently but it is still too confusing. This magazine definitely needs to reinvent itself.
I made the mistake by ordering another car magazine - not good. My husband continued to buy Car and Driver magazine at full cover price! I finally decided to get him a subscription to the only car magazine he'll read!
Car and Driver magazine is a great overall car magazine! Hip to trends and hot new must have's. A great tool for reviewing a vehicle specs or models. A++
Car and Driver magazine does an excellent job of putting you in the driver's seat of some of the world's most famous fast cars, although mostly exotics and high end luxury sports cars. They also have a section where they test out more reasonably priced cars for the long term near the back of the magazine, and often they include the latest news in the car world. Overall and classic car magazine, that for a good price is well worth the buy.
Car and Driver magazine is the BEST magazine, hands down. I have been a loyal Car And Driver subscriber for 6 years and just renewed for 2 more! They give very detailed analysis of every car and truck on the market. They will help you make an educated choice of which car to buy or just keep you informed about what is on the market. And their editor has a great sense of humor!
Arron you write so well. you have missed your calling. it's obvious after your test ride with the new 2011 grand cherokee you conteplated your thoughts with your 3 or 4 good friends, the interior decorator, the hair dresser and probably a wedding planner. All of you guys sipped wine and ate Brie. Hopefully car and driver magazine realizes their holding you back and give you up so you are able to soar to your new heights of writing. You would be wonderful writing for Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Glamour. My wishes for you, that you can make that climb to your next level.
Car and Driver magazine is a good magazine to read. It always has comments on New, Used, and Upcoming Cars. I love reading or browsing it.

Car & Driver Magazine Subscription Video Reveiw
Hi. I’m Bill Shirer from Magazines.com.
Car and Driver is not only my favorite car magazine, but probably my favorite magazine in general.
For some people cars are performance and racing, while others are interested in minivans and SUV’s, or about getting the best gas mileage for their daily commute. Car and Driver magazine covers them all.
I love exotic cars, but will probably never own one. I still want to read about them, and they are covered here, but so are all the Ford, Chevy and Toyota’s that everyone uses in their life.
One of my favorite features of Car and Driver is the ‘comparos’ that they do. Car and Driver gets 4 to 6 cars in the same niche, runs them through a series of tests, and gives a report on how each car compares to the other. They usually rank them by the statistical results of the test, but they still give their personal opinions about each car too. That way I know not only the performance measurements, but also the non-measurables… like ‘cheap interior materials’ or ‘confusing control layout’.
I also really find the long-term tests that the editorial staff performs very useful. Car and Driver keeps a fleet of popular cars that the editors use as their personal cars. They report on things like the number of scheduled and unscheduled service stops, what was covered under warranty, average miles-per-gallon, and more. This gives you a both a total cost of ownership, as well as an indication of what you will feel about a car after you’ve driven it for a while.
Overall, I feel that Car and Driver magazine is my number one source of getting updated information about cars – not only about making informed decisions on car buying, but also because I enjoy cars. I highly recommend a Car and Driver subscription for yourself, or as a gift for any car enthusiast.
With the great subscription deals at Magazines.com it’s never been easier to add it to your monthly reading list.
