Though not as well known, Woodworker West is probably the most useful of all the woodworking publications. It tells you what going on in the woodworking/woodturning world and has interesting features and craftsman profiles. For the professional, it has an opportunity section, telling you where you can show your work or what competitions to enter.
Great magazine for the serious woodworker who enjoys the whys and hows of woodworking.
Fine Woodworking is a consistently high-quality publication with articles written by professionals and accomplished woodworkers. It features articles on a gamut of woodworking subjects from reviews of tools and supplies to methods and design. Unlike many other woodworking magazines which aim low, with projects like simple bird feeders, Fine Woodworking is about creating heirloom quality masterpieces, treating woodworking as equal parts science and art.
I enjoy Fine Woodworking magazine.
For the professional or the gifted amateur, Fine Woodworking magazine should be part of your basic library. It is informative and well written. It's a must have for every one who works with wood.
Woodworkers might have different views about many things in their craft but all seem to agree that Fine Woodworking is a the top for woodworking magazines. They started at the top in the 70s and they have stayed there. They have made changes, in format and in scope but they still lead the pack in the quality of their content, text and images (excellence in both illustration and photography) and a good sense of how to portray teaching a woodworking skill in a magazine.
