Content is organized into the following recurring features and sections: "Index," a single-page of one-line statistics that together paint a picture of the times; "Readings," a collection of shorter, but notable and newsworthy items that include essays, letters, official memos, interviews, transcripts, press releases, poems, artwork, graphs, photographs, fiction, and more; "Forum," which tackles a single controversial subject through a transcribed discussion or solicited essays; "Annotation," everyday texts, such as contracts, hospital bills, tax forms, menus, police reports, and government documents, which are interpreted by experts; "Essay," thought-provoking, full-length explorations of contemporary subjects by well-known, highly regarded writers; "Review," short critiques of current cultural artifacts and fiction, ranging from books and film to art and pop album covers; and "Findings," a summary of recent scientific--and unscientific--discoveries.
Harper's takes a fluid approach to its editorial, letting the events of the day shape its topics and coverage. Therefore, it does not produce any special editions. Four times a year, however, it publishes "Folio," a special editorial supplement consisting of a significant piece of fiction or journalism.

I've been a subscriber for years, and there's rarely an article I pass up reading in this inspiring magazine.
nice articles, good collection
I am so impressed with Harper's. I'm a new subscriber--just read the Sept. '09 issue.
Harper's is well written by people who care about what they write. The articles can range from fairly short to fairly long. Whether it's about a political issue, modern day issues, something you should know about, etc, they always seem to be good articles. What surprised me is the writers are not afraid to use swear words. It's not an every-other-word thing, just here and there. Also, the articles seem to have a hip slant to them.
