About House Beautiful

Launched in 1896, House Beautiful is the oldest home decor magazine that is still published. Each monthly issue is packed with expert design advice on how to liven up each room of your house, as well as beautiful photos that provide inspiration for home decor and remodeling projects. Design experts and decorators weigh in on how to choose color, fabric, paint, or furniture based on room, size, and other concerns.

Regular sections in the magazine that are reader-favorites include: "Paint Palette," how to find inspiration for pairing colors; "Instant Room," a breakdown of all the elements needed to create a inviting room; "What's On Your Vanity?," a peek at how design meets function on the featured designer's vanity; "Design Book," a recommended book about interior decorating; "I Love My Bed," how designers turn their beds into a luxurious retreat; "The Best for the Kitchen" and "The Best for the Bath," picks from the editors on must-have items for each room; and "Kitchen of the Month" and "Bath of the Month," which highlights the design and inspiration of the respective room in each issue.

During the year, House Beautiful may publish special issues, such as "The Renovations Issue," "Kitchen of the Year," "The Amazing Issue," and others dedicated to entertaining and various aspects of design.

Anyone interested in designing or remodeling their home would enjoy a subscription to House Beautiful magazine!

Great Decorating Magazine

House Beautiful is a great magazine for decorating ideas. Many out of my budget, but inspirational. I take many of the ideas and shop for similar things more reasonably priced.

If you are looking for decorating ideas and live in middle income America, House Beautiful magazine is not the magazine for you. While the houses are stunning and the pictures are breathtaking, it caters to those with a second home in the Hamptons. $1500 for a lamp, seriously? While I like to browse the magazine, I don't find that it pertains to me or my family. I miss Domino magazine.

This is my second round subscribing HouseBeautiful magazine, and I am still loving it! I do plenty of comparison in decorating my house and what the magazine offers. I get a lot of ideas from it. I still look forward to receiving my magazine every time!

      my favorite magazine

      By arpark

      from U.S.

House Beautiful magazine is the closest print magazine to Domino, in my opinion. I look forward to reading this magazine more than any of my other subscriptions. Fewer ads and more price ranges represented than Elle Decor, which is more of an industry magazine.

      Tuscany in Houston

      By Doug

      from Elizabeth CO

After years of reading many shelter magazines, I've got to let you know that the April 2010 article about the transformation of a new house in Houston into an authentic Tuscan farmhouse is so over-the-top incredibly exciting to me. Amazing! Kudos to the owners, the designers, and to House Beautiful, for featuring it.

One of the best house design magazines

      By Squigee

      from Charlotte, NC

Over the past few years House Beautiful magazine has become lighter and more in tuned to younger customers looking for classic design and inspiration. One of my favorite sections is the color swatches accompanied by designers' comments. It gives you a quick peek into their color selection process, and has given me the courage to consider something new or different for my walls.

      As good as HGTV

      By Gaygay

I recently purchased my first copy of House Beautiful magazine. I saw the magazine in a doctor's office. What I like about the magazine is that it doesn't show anything that is beyond my means of creating something similar. It is very down to earth. I am extremely happy that I came upon this magazine.

      House Beautiful Magazine Subscription Review.

      Video Transcript

      Hi, I’m Christen from Magazines.com.

The award-winning House Beautiful magazine shares advice on designing and decorating that jumps off its glossy pages with stunning photography.

Regular features in every issue address the editors’ picks of the latest must-have products, color selection secrets, step-by-step renovation makeovers, tablescape design tips and common problems, like how to make the most of small spaces.

With expert recommendations on everything from furniture and fabric to color and up-and-coming trends, House Beautiful magazine has something for young to experienced designers. But even DIY decorators can find inspiration in its pages.

From simple furniture and designs to more elaborate Victorian-inspired touches, House Beautiful magazine doesn’t endorse one period or school of design over another. Instead, it allows readers to choose those elements that appeal to their style and taste.

But what you may miss, just going by the name alone, is the cooking and entertaining advice that can help make that beautiful house a home. The Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten, chimes in with simple recipes and hosting hints for parties or small get-togethers. And the cookbook section rates the latest cookbooks after editors put them to the test.

Because of this, perhaps, House Beautiful magazine is often praised for its “liveable” approach to decorating and its easy-to-follow ideas that make creating a luxurious home seem easy.

If you love decorating and entertaining then I suggest checking out the current House Beautiful subscription deals going on at Magazines.com.
