Outside magazine has wonderful articles for every outdoor enthusiast. From interviews with your favorite athletes, to new gear reviews and fitness tips, it has it all. I especially like the travel articles.
Getting Outside every month to me is a regular inspiration to putting on my hiking shoes and packing a backpack.
If you are realistic about your expectations Outside offers fabulous photographic perspectives on lives and adventures that the average Joe may never experience. They also review a lot of eclectic personas that lived lives some of us may dream of but are not willing to sacrifice for. Fabulous for exciting entertainment purposes.
If you really like the outside, don't bother with Outside magazine; instead try something like Backpacker. First of all, how can a magazine that supposedly promotes the outdoors have an ad for a Hummer? The social ethics behind this magazine are horrendous. Secondly, the articles are mostly fluff pieces about a famous person's struggles against mother nature. I was hugely disappointed when I picked up an issue of Outside at an airport. If you are over 60 and enjoy driving your yacht through the habitat of endangered species, then this magazine if for you. If you actually like to be outside (camping, trekking, climbing, paddling, etc.) don't look here for anything relevant; you'll just get upset at what you read.
I am not a rugged hiker, skiier or even a person who likes to camp, but I still find this magazine very informative and engaging. Though I'm not much interested in a lot of the gear reviews (because I'm not terribly athletic), there's still a lot in the magazine that's interesting, including profiles and features that stretch the boundary of what you might think Outside would cover, such as social/political/environmental issues all over the world and a column by Jack Handey.
