• Pros: Beautiful pictures of cakes
• Cons: Unrealistic for home bakers

I have had my subscription to American Cake Decorating magazine for a year now and will be canceling. The cakes in this magazine are for professional decorators or for those competing in competitions. There is nothing to help teach or advance my knowledge and I am pretty talented! It is also VERY heavy in advertising!

I just received my first issue of ACD today, and my only thought was why did I wait so long to subscribe? Excellent how-tos, expansive information on sugarcraft events nationwide, and I also like the fact that it lists suppliers, books, and videos---one stop indugence for my passion for cake decorating.

I am a novice cake decorator, and I find ACD very helpful in terms of techniques. The step-by-step instructions are clearly written and little suggestions are included that help me work out each step. I would love to someday make a cake as beautiful as Rebecca Sutterby, but in the meantime, I am steadily learining new ways to make ribbons, flowers, and sugar people. It is also really nice to get new ideas and see what is going on in the cake world with different cake shows. It did take me a long time to get my first issue, but it was defintely worth the wait!

I simply love this magazine. I've been decorating cakes for only a few years, but everytime I get my ACD magazine, I learn something new. I like to see what the professionals are doing and because the directions are so precise, I find I can make the cakes that are shown. You don't have to be a pro to enjoy this magazine, but if you read it enough you might become one!
