• Cons: 75% novice information, not helpful to average fish keeper, poor comics

I was hoping that Aquarium Fish International magazine would give me a good read once a month but it really doesn't. I have been keeping fish for a few years and it seems that I've acquired much of the knowledge they have to offer already. If you are a novice, this magazine is probably a little over your head, and if you're an advance hobbyist, this magazine is a bit too novice. I am not sure what kind of audience they are targeting with this. I was hoping it would be more interesting but it seems to center a lot on breeding and feeding. Unless you keep dozens of different species, this may not benefit you at all.

• Pros: Varied articles, coupons

Issues of Aquarium Fish International magazine often have coupons that will offset cost of subscription, such as $3 off at PetSmart, free fish food (3 oz size, not .005 oz!), etc. For this reason, I don't complain about the ads.

• Pros: Nice design and photography, lots of helpful tips, good topic mix
• Cons: Many articles tend towards a beginning or intermediate hobbyist

Aquarium Fish International is a great all-around magazine. It has something for everyone including a kid's column. While many of the articles tend to not be for advanced hobbyists, they usually provide a good refresher and quite often I learn something I never knew.

Scott Michael is always great, but the design is off the wall and the overall quality of Aquarium Fish International is unpredictable from issue to issue.
