Need more focus on the mind instead of the body on October 28, 2009 by Lady bug from Lakewood, WA

I recently viewed Cosmopolitan magazine and was appalled at how many ads there were for makeup. I saw around 25 ads for this, around 8 ads for clothes, and around 7 ads for hair products and tips. What is the message they are trying to send to women? Women are not just something good to look at, they have minds and desires to be better as well. I did notice one or two ads for education but it was for getting a career that is typical for women to go into. The ad was for Career Institute and in the Dental Hygienist field. The message that I got is that Cosmopolitan is not very concerned with women's rights and the huge strides that we as women have taken. I would like to see more ads that encourage women to make themselves better in the mind. I felt that there were way too many ads that tell a woman that she will not be pretty unless she wears the best makeup or the best clothes. This is a woman's magazine and should identify the true needs of women. Because of Cosmopolitan magazine and many others women are feeling as if they are not good enough and need to improve their looks instead of their minds.

My Monthly Buy! on September 21, 2009 by Panda from California

  • Pros: Diverse information ranging from beauty to sex to just having fun
  • Cons: lots of ad space

I get Cosmopolitan magazine every month. I'm the kind of girl who knows more about sports and cars rather than make-up and hair, so I love the fashion advice. The reads are pretty funny, too. I always use the "Man Manual" and it often helps my boyfriend and I to come to a better understanding of each other.

Will Not Renew Again on August 26, 2009 by Semisweet from East Orange, NJ

  • Pros: the perfume samples
  • Cons: to much sex advice and beauty ads

I will not renew my order for the simple reason Cosmopolitan magazine is too materialistic. There are too many beauty ads and articles. Not to mention the sex advice is horrible. Cosmo is not geared to a mature audience. The writing is geared for teen girls not mature women and why would a magazine be giving sex advice to teenage girls? They need to touch on real issues in women's lives instead of how to apply makeup; I mean once in a while a beauty tip is good but every magazine leaves me empty. The bottom line is Cosmo has no since of realism.

  • Cons: Photo and Design Quality

I really like Cosmopolitan magazine especially from a photo and design standpoint. I'm a graphic designer.

In General on July 06, 2009 by Actually possesses a mind with original thought from USA

Since when did Cosmopolitan degenerate into a proliferation of vacuous advertisements for fashion which virtually no one out in the real world would ever consider buying?
