My review on December 31, 2010 by EPower from Iowa

Current World Archaeology magazine is one of my favorite magazines that I read. I learn lots of new information with each issue that I usually do not see in other places. The articles are the perfect length and are definitely a must read!

Acceptable, not stellar on August 23, 2010 by Robodoc from Chicago

  • Pros: Excellent topics
  • Cons: Mediocre writing

The selection of topics in Current World Archaeology magazine is quite excellent. The quality of writing is remarkably sub-par, even dreary at times. I would have expected British writers (and, admittedly, not all the authors are British)to produce better products than American archeologists, but not so. The articles could benefit from a heavy-handed editor to strike out all the unnecessary verbiage. For example, it is entirely irrelevant to expend paragraphs on the challenges of obtaining permits or permission from the local bureaucrat/chieftain/potentate to undertake an excavation and it is even more useless to describe the volumes of over-fill that had to be carted away to get to the good stuff. We all know that every expedition entails lots of bureaucracy and moving of dirt.

Current World Archeology on May 07, 2010 by Miramar from Mason, Ohio, USA

  • Pros: Imaginative, authoritative articles on the subject
  • Cons: Not published monthly, only bi-monthly

For years I was a reader of a couple of American magazines on the many worlds of archeology, secular and Biblical. I was interested, even fascinated, about the human journey through time, and the way the professionals could learn from the slightest clues. But then I discovered the best publication, by far, in the field for interested amateurs. The articles were different, they were full of personality as well as facts. The British writers seem to have a voice in their writing that the American contributors cannot match. I read every issue and then read some again. Sadly, I have no friends who are captured by the subject, but I keep talking about various topics, and will eventually find someone. Meanwhile, there's Current World Archeology.
