Great for women who are busy with kids. on August 26, 2008

I think this magazine is great for average folks as opposed to the science junky. It's great for women who have kids and not a lot of time to devote to reading. The articles are easy enough to read through while waiting for karate class to finish. And you can share it with the kids. My 12 year old enjoys it too.

Very General and public-friendly on July 04, 2008
by Mae from Ohio
  • Pros: 20 things you didn't know about...,news
  • Cons: Way to much climate coverage, and old news

This is a decent magazine, i would recommend it for middle schoolers especially. Will not be renewing, however. I get the same info, 2-3 weeks earlier and covered much more in depth from other sources.

Provides a Good Overview of Current Science Topics on August 06, 2007
by Bioconservationist

I agree with the other reviewer about Discover now that Guccione has taken over. The articles are "flashier" and many times primarily constitute the musings of the author. For me, these are not worth reading. So, the magazine has less useful scientific content than it used to have. Nevertheless, it is refreshing that Discover has not changed its "bent" toward pure science, e.g., it does not cater to discourse about such religious or non-scientific concepts like Creationism or intelligent design. In my opinion, these do not belong in any publication that purports to represent modern scientific theories and/or well established scientific research. Therefore, aside from Science News, I still regard Discover as one of our most well-informed, "popular" publications about science. It is a very worthwhile magazine that can assist the general public (including myself) in staying abreast of current scientific research/discoveries that influence our daily lives or that have socioeconomic or political significance.

Well, its Gucionne but even still its a good little magazine. Just plain fun to read with relevant articles and a variety of authors. It's a joy getting it every month.
