As an executive, I find the Harvard Business Review an important resource in the areas of management and leadership. One of my favorite aspects of the magazine is the Executive Summaries – a short column in the back of the magazine that summarizes each feature. I tend to start there to make my decisions on which articles I’m interested in reading right way.
Even though the title might make you think otherwise--this magazine isn’t too academic – what I mean by this is that I never have the feeling that the columnists or editors are speaking from a textbook. There is plenty of ‘real world’ perspective and advice.
I like the themed approach with varied articles featuring different aspects of a larger subject. Being able to take in a lot of information, digesting it quickly and making a decision is one of the keys to leadership success. Making sure you get the information you need to make that good decision means that you need to have an open, collaborative environment where opinions can be voiced.
The writers and editors at Harvard Business Review do an excellent job asking the reader tough questions and challenging us to think about things like innovation, collaboration, research and business growth in new ways. It’s my goal to continue to grow the businesses I manage and to grow as a leader. Harvard Business Review gives me the tools I need to achieve these goals.
