Maximum PC is the one mag I *ALWAYS* renew on November 10, 2009 by Bryan from Mansfield, TX

  • Pros: Helpful columns, in-depth reviews, real-world relevance for computer hobbyists
  • Cons: Only comes once a month? Does that count?

Maximum PC is the one PC-related magazine I've renewed, year after year, for many years now. The editors and writers really know their stuff. I find something helpful in every issue, from the perfect settings & software to rip audio CD's to mp3's, to in-depth comparisons and benchmarks on the latest video cards. Every piece of hardware that goes in a computer gets reviewed in Maximum PC. With a name like Maximum PC, one would expect the magazine to focus solely on the best of the best, which usually translates into the most costly. The editors at Maximum PC understand that not everyone has an unlimited budget, so they also provide helpful advice, reviews, and articles on hardware for the budget-conscious among us. Regular columns include the Quickstart news section, which gives news snippets on a variety of current happenings in the computer industry. Byte rights is a fairly recent addition to the magazine that discusses various legal issues, generally revolving around the often thorny DMCA and fair-use issues computer users need to be concerned about. The Doctor is a top-notch technical help section with user-submitted letters to the Maximum PC.

Best Computer Magazine on July 29, 2009 by G from US

  • Pros: Honest reviews using meaningful criteria, timely and accurate information about the tech landscape
  • Cons: More corporate-friendly, politically-correct attitude over the last few years, the last-page entertainment peice is no longer published (I miss

I've been hooked since issue #1 of Maximum PC. I get over half of my PC-related technology information from this resource. Anyone who builds, upgrades, or maintains PCs would be well-served by this magazine.

Best Hardware Magazine out There on July 19, 2009 by PC God from USA

  • Pros: Excellent content
  • Cons: Somewhat ad heavy, non-disc version

I love every segment of Maximum PC (non-disc version) magazine. The articles are current and up-to-date; they are on the forefront of PC technology. No other computer magazine even compares. There isn't a disc, but if you have broadband internet access, you don't even need it. There are a lot of ads for the amount of content, especially a monthly ad for a web provider that spans between 6-8 pages (gotta have that ad revenue I guess). If you build PC's or are thinking of building a PC, this is the first magazine you should get.

Best Unbiased Mag out There! on March 26, 2009 by Sgt Holcum from USA

  • Pros: Current, relevent, and spot on!
  • Cons: None

I have been a reader of Maximum PC since the beginning when it was called Boot magazine and it still today has the most unbiased current information about hardware, software and techie stuff of all the computing magazines out there. I love the fact that they will rip up or praise any piece of hardware/software regardless of their affiliation or advertising status with the companies they deal with. All facts NO BULL!!
