ABOUT THE ATLANTIC
The Atlantic Monthly was first launched in 1857 by a group of writers in Boston. Among these writers were Ralph Waldo Emerson, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., James Russell Lowell, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Lowell, the first editor, had a policy of printing articles on nature, travel, and biography. The Atlantic Monthly has been rich in history since its first publication. In 1862, it was the first to publish the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and in 1963 Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" was published. Standard topics of articles include foreign and domestic policy, state of security, society, technology, media, and more. The Atlantic Monthly is a primary source for a well-rounded, intellectual report of what is going on in the world. The "Who's Who" index found in every issue gives you page numbers for quick and easy reference. Readers might also enjoy Newsweek and Harper's.
