About Southern Living

Fans of Southern food will find plenty of recipes in its pages, as well as tips and advice on home decorating, gardening, and entertaining, and regional travel itinerary suggestions. Holiday issues are particularly popular sources of recipes, encompassing everything from appetizers and cocktails to entrees, sides, and decadent desserts.

Reader-favorite features in every issue include: "The Grumpy Gardener," in which the magazine's resident expert helps wannabe gardeners address common problems; a monthly "Grow Guide," which recommends plants and flowers that should be planted then; "Best of the South," a sampling of some of the best food or experiences in popular or out-of-the-way regional destinations; "Tastemakers," a feature on a champion of Southern food; and "Southern Journal," a well-known author's commentary on one of the many aspects of Southern culture.

Special issues throughout the year will include seasonal recipes and entertaining guides, gardening guides, and even home makeover ideas. One of Southern Living's most anticipated issues is dedicated to "The South's Tastiest Towns," an honor the magazine bestows every year.

People who love the South--and its food in particular--would love a subscription to Southern Living!

Southern Living Magazine Subscription Video Review

Hi, I’m Beth. I’m a food blogger from Nashville, TN and a Southern girl, born and raised.

Southern Living magazine has been in my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would spend hours poring over my mom’s collection, letting my imagination run wild. I would choose house plans and home interior designs that I loved, pretending I was all grown up with a family of my own. In fact, I still have tear-outs from issues that date back to the early 80’s!

When I moved away to college, my mom continued to save old copies of the magazine for me to thumb through when home for a visit. As time went on, I became more interested in different sections of the magazine, particularly food, travel and gardening.

Through the years I’ve torn out many articles regarding travel through the south and have followed several of their recommendations, most recently using a feature on Savannah, Georgia as a guide in building my own trip itinerary.

Once I became a homeowner, the gardening and landscaping tips became a lifesaver, as I definitely was NOT born with a green thumb! From caring for herbs to creating an arrangement of perennials in the flower bed, Southern Living has helped me bring beauty to our home, both inside and out. But most of all, my favorite aspect of the magazine, above all others is the food. Their recipes have never once let me down. In fact, many of them show up on my table over and over again, which is saying a lot coming from someone who always enjoys trying new things.

Unlike when I use recipes from other magazines, I’ve never had to tweak a dish to make it better, or ever felt the need for a “trial run” before serving to guests. With Southern Living, every dish I’ve made has been a hit, so it has become one of the most reliable sources I turn to for dinner inspiration!

If you love food and cooking magazines then I suggest you check out the current Southern Living magazine subscription deals going on at Magazines.com. And be sure to follow my culinary adventures on my blog at www.eat-drink-smile.com and on Twitter @betheats!

I have loved Southern Living magazine for years but I have just canceled my subscription for good. The old heavy paper with good quality photography has been replaced with paper only slightly better than newspaper and it looks cheap. The monthly house plan is gone (or buried where I could not find it). There is no good content. I used to spend hours reading the articles. Now after 10 minutes I'm ready to throw it in the trash. What a shame!!

The recipes in Southern Living are the only reason I enjoy the magazine. The home decorating styles are beyond my means.

However, the food articles are great and the recipes clear and easy to use with many great ideas. I wish there were more in each issue.

I use the magazine primarily for good, home cooking ideas. What you would use in a family without all the "yuppie" or ethnic additives. I have submitted reciepes in other years that were used.

I love the travel or reviews of town, places to eat and indepth pictures of people, culture areas of the south. The foods native to that area like LA; GA or NC. The flavor of the people. The travel along the Applachian trail all have been great reading. I will never go there but enjoy being there through reading.

I do not personally do gardening or landscaping or building but if you dod it is optimal resource for any and all. The backyard gardner would love it. The casual landscaper would need little more to do any planning.

I have read Souther Living for years but had not had a subscription for many and decided with the wonderful price value I would get another one. I love it and it is one of my favorite, quality, quanity driven magazines that has never changed.
I have also attended some of the special Southern Living shows they use to have yearly in our area and LOVED THEM.
