About American Girl
American Girl was launched in 1992 as part of the company's efforts to further fuel connection and belonging among girls. Similar to its dolls and books, this age-appropriate periodical is meant to encourage experiences that help pre-teens reach their full potential and develop a healthy sense of self.
An award-winning publication, American Girl addresses both the hopes and worries all girls share at this transitional stage of life through motivational advice, timely articles, positive life tips and reader-submitted stories. Popular topics include: friendships, emotions, divorce, siblings, health and growing up. The intent is to foster self-esteem, imagination, confidence and positivity.
American Girl caters to girls' creative interests by offering fresh ideas for wholesome fun -- crafts, activities, games, recipes, contests and parties. There is even a forum for readers to share their stories and a help column that answers their submitted questions. All with no advertising!
Girls who loved, but have outgrown, the American Girl dolls find American Girl magazine to be a nice transition.
Eight to twelve-year-old girls who could use a supportive resource at this confusing but exciting time in their lives will enjoy a subscription to American Girl.

American Girl Magazine Review
Being a mom has taught me a lot—mainly, that kids, especially girls, are growing up way too fast these days. Between the Internet, Facebook, smartphones and the low-slung skinny jeans in kids’ sizes, we parents are fighting a somewhat losing battle against “growing up way too fast.”
But there are beacons in the night, things to help keep our little girls stay innocent a bit longer. One of them is the sweet, wholesome American Girl magazine, which offers the goodness of making homemade candy monsters for Halloween and how to handle problems at school. These are the things little girls and tweens actually want to talk about—well, that and boys.
Besides featuring “25 ways to transform a t-shirt,” American Girl magazine also celebrates the writing of its readers, even sponsoring fiction contests for young girls. And while you might be begging your girl to get off the computer and to go get some fresh air outside, take comfort in knowing this magazine will make exercise seem a whole lot cooler than you ever could, Mom.
The thing is all of our girls are growing up; we’re just trying to make sure they don’t grow up too fast. Boys can wait and will come and go, but chocolate and candy monsters will serve a girl well for a lifetime.
