glamorous yet practical on December 07, 2011 by Sweet03 from Michigan

  • Pros: variety, visually appealing, always new & fresh
  • Cons: lots of volume and text at times

Beautiful representation sure to appeal to African American women and families as well as others. Always a good bet in terms of content and value.

will not renew on November 13, 2010 by tete from memphis

  • Pros: geared to young black women mostly
  • Cons: too politically correct

Over the years Essence magazine has started to do too much grandstanding. The magazine could be great if it didn't try so hard to preach ethics that might not be the beliefs of their subscribers. Too preachy and pushy on certain issues for my taste.
