Don't Waste Your Money on September 24, 2009 by Mom of 3 from St Louis, MO

  • Pros: Colorful Printing and photo quality
  • Cons: Mostly Advertisments

We were excited to get our 1st issue of National Geographic Kids. We expected the high level of quality from National Geographic. We get several of their other publications and were expecting that same level of quality. We were wrong! The magazine is not good! It is more than 50% ads. We did not renew. Look at it at a bookstore before you order it online.

Appealing to Kids on August 20, 2009 by Gifted Child from Henderson, NV

  • Pros: Colorful, fun facts, and cool articles
  • Cons: Too many advertisements

I am a reader of National Geographic Kids and I like it but it is pretty short and has a lot of ads. I love the pictures and layout and the facts are really interesting. I recommend it to friends.

Did not live up to Nat'l Geo Reputation on November 12, 2008 by Mother of Four from Utah

  • Pros: pretty decent articles
  • Cons: A ton of ads that can't be distinguished from the real articles

I bought this magazine mostly on the reputation from National Geographic, which I love. The kids magazine was a huge disappointment. The main reason is that there are so many ads--sometimes there are pages with no real text!--and the worst part is that the reader (me or my 8-year-old) can't tell the difference. The ads are for video games and electronics that I don't want my child to be exposed to.

Nothing like National Geographic on October 29, 2008 by magazinereader

  • Pros: good if your child is ADD
  • Cons: no good if you want your child to learn anything

This magazine does not resemble its parent magazine except for the occasional picture or pictures of animals. It is almost all ads, even the main article usually reviews the latest kids movie. The ads are flashy. There really are no educational articles; just silly animal pictures with goofy captions, the occasional odd facts, Stump your parents, maybe a word find puzzle. If you want something with which to educate while entertaining your children with worthwhile activities and such, look for other magazines. A previous reviewer has some good ideas for kids magazines. Or if you want the geographical, historical, anthropological aspects of National Geographic magazine, I would suggest just subscribing to the original "National Geographic" magazine. Censor it yourself if that is why you are looking at this kiddie magazine option. Whatever you do, don't waste your money on "National Geographic Kids", there are far better and worthier options that deserve our support.
