November 09 Issue on October 30, 2009 by Over 65 from U.S.

  • Pros: The Best Issue Ever!
  • Cons: none

The November issue of Prevention magazine is packed with information on beauty secrets for a healthy glow, to anti-aging tips, exercises for the over 50 crowd, information from professionals and much more. Not everyone in their readership is 40 - 50; some of us are + 65; this issue is for ALL ages and I appreciate it.

Prevention on July 19, 2009 by Cindylaloca from USA

  • Cons: too many ads

The last issue of Prevention I received had 33 ads with 112 pages total in magazine. That is almost 1/3 ads. I will not being renewing my subscription.

  • Pros: Generally good information albeit brief at times--not enough substance
  • Cons: Too many pharmaceutical ads--length of articles could be increased

I no longer subscribe to Prevention--however do occasionally buy at newstand to see if some of my "cons" have been reduced. This magazine has great alternative information but has so many ads for drugs--it seems to be a contradiction in and of itself. Readers of magazines of this type are generally interested in "Holistic/alternative" health and where does one find a magazine truly dedicated to that --including good factual medical support. Dr Weil's column is great as he generally gives both sides! I will continue to purchase the magazine off and on.

I GET A LOT OF HELPFUL INFORMATION FROM THIS MAGAZINE. AS FOR THE HEAVY ADS, I REMOVE OR IGNORE THEM.

Too Many Drug Company Ads on January 10, 2008 by Lori from NJ

  • Pros: Articles explore alternative therapies in a succinct way
  • Cons: Way too many ads for drug companies, too much emphasis on weight loss

I always loved Prevention Magazine because it always emphasized alternative therapies and self-help. But I am sorry to say I won't be renewing my subscription. I came to this conclusion for two reasons: (1) There are an enormous number of huge advertisements for prescription drugs. This does not seem to fit in with Prevention's approach to health. (2) The magazine incessantly harps on weight loss. Every cover has at least a couple stories on "Flat Bellies", "Easy Weight-Loss Moves", "Lose Those Ten Pounds," etc. Every cover model is a too-skinny or anorexic woman. This emphasis does not fit with Prevention's emphasis on "health", but instead panders to the American obsession with weight.
