Excellent addition to the universitiy-sponsored health newsletter genre!
I especially appreciate its orientation to older adults, and its widespread
and comprehensive topics. I recommend it often.

I would give it 5 stars in all categories.

Seems to cover things that are often seen in other magazines.

Your article Acupuncture: A 2000- Year Track Record oversimplified and did not accurately state how acupuncture works.Acupuncture does have an effect on the release of endorphins however its actions and effects go far beyond the release of endorphins.It has an effect on serotonin levels and therefore is effective for depression. It causes the release of the body's own cortisol levels avoiding cortisone injections for inflammatory conditions such as plantar fasciitis, bursitis,and arthritis. At the Marino Center in MA studies have show that an acupuncture point, PC6 which releives nausea and vomiting when stimutaed shows activity in the area of the brain that controls nausea and can be seen on an MRI.Acupuncture is used to treat patients undergoing chemotherapy in part because of the antinausea effect. Each acupuncture point has a specific action and effect and can be used to treat most conditions a general practitioner would see. To say that acupuncture may work in part due to its placebo effect and not mention that any therapy, including medication has a 30% placebo effect is misleading. As to the placebo effect; acupuncture is used with animals and results are even better than with humans. I don't think a dog believes the insertion of very fine thin needles is going to made them better yet it does.I do beleive the the human mind and emotions get in the way of healing. Chinese Medicine has its own system of diagnosis and cannot totally be described in western terms. Its like explaining Buddhism through Catholicism.Having said that I do not mean to imply that Chinese Medicine is a religion, it is a healing art and a science. Very disappointing. Little content and not worth the $20.
