The Year That Was
From the violent insurrection at the Capitol to the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan and an inspiring Summer Olympics in Tokyo, 2021 was an unforgettable year. A new administration was sworn in, with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris working to enact their progressive agenda in the face of stiff Republican opposition. And as more and more Americans were vaccinated against Covid-19, life slowly began to return to something close to normal, with award-show glamour, Tom Brady winning another Super Bowl, and even a reunion of the cast of Friends. This special issue of the Los Angeles Times looks back at all of that, as well as the other highs and lows of a memorable 12 months.
