I really enjoy this magazine. I found it was the go-to magazine when I was at a doctor's office, the dentist's office or getting my hair done. The articles cover science, history, objects, books, and just about anything else you can think of that might be connected to the research and items in the many Smithsonian Museums. I am gleeful when I look at the table of contents of each new issue because there is such a range of topics covered by this magazine.

For example, the Nov. 2013 issue, which is not a typical issue covers the 101 objects that made America including buffalo, the AIDS quilt, Harriet Tubman's Hymn Book, Polio Vaccine, a gold nugget, "This Land is Your Land" by Woodie Guthrie, clovis points, a ration ticket and Lewis and Clark's compass. That gives you some idea about the breadth of items discussed in this magazine's pages.

Great way to learn about our world - past, present, and still-to-come.

    Stable, consistent, educational publication

I've been getting the magazine for years. It has changed little in terms of its overall quality. Since some of the content draws on the Smithsonian itself, those articles greatly benefit from the vast wealth of material in that collection. A good choice for history or science buffs.

Changes in layout are not always good

    By Teacher2

I had been a subscriber of Smithsonian magazine for over 20 years. Then they decided to change their layout. They should have stuck with what worked. The ads are confusing as well as the beginning of a new article. You can't tell at a glance whether you are viewing a new article or just another ad. Sometimes when you think you are turning a page with an ad on it, it is actually a beginning of a new article. And the content page is a few pages in instead of being at the beginning. They must have hired some kid fresh out of college who thought had some new ideas to update the magazine. They need to make the magazine user-friendly like it used to be. I hated ending my subscription but it was just too frustrating to read.

Adds to a well-rounded understanding of our past and present

I've been a 20+ year subscriber to Smithsonian magazine and I've learned more science, history, geography and sociology than I ever read in a schoolbook in depth coverage of all their articles is superb. Of all the gifts my kids and grand kids get during the year this tops the list.

Smithsonian magazine is always fun to get since I am never sure of what I will be reading about from one magazine to the next.

After receiving the email to purchase magazines at, I ordered Smithsonian Magazine. The process of placing the order was fast and easy. Plus, I was able to subscribe to the magazine at a great rate! As for the Smithsonian Magazine, it is the best. I look forward to each and every issue.

    Interesting Magazine

    By Science reader

I ordered Smithsonian magazine for my 11-year-old daughter and she generally loves it. It has some topics that they study at school. But the articles are not that engaging, and I find them little bit boring and either too long or too short. It also has too many ads and a lot of the ads are not related to the essence of this magazine. I'll keep reading some more issues and then decide if I want to cancel the subscription.
